19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a decider.

He rescued four early chances in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
