The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
